A luxury resort near the ruins of Tulum
is the designer hotel
that's located near the ancient ruins of Tulum
on the Yucatán Peninsula.
Tulum is a fortified settlement in the state of Quintana Roo, which faces the Caribbean Sea. Its original name, Zamá, means "place of the rising sun" in the Mayan language, because the town faces east. The present-day name - Tulum - can probably be attributed to 20th-century explorers.
The ruins at Tulum
Today the ruins at Tulum are extremely interesting due to their excellent state of preservation. The settlement is perched on 12-metre cliffs, and the result is a truly extraordinary sight. To enter the archaeological site, visitors have to cross a 4-metre thick wall that completely encircles the ruins, making them even more mysterious.
